Bog moss pine forests cover more than a half of all territory of the raised bog. Sphagnum communities prevail throughout the raised-bog. Plant communities prevail in the elevated locality of the raised bog. Such hydrology conditions are favorable for vegetation of sundews, marshy meadowsweets and white moorsimse (Rhynchosporion).
The following mammals are common for the raised bogs: elks, wild boars, foxes, and wolves. Rare birds breed there, i.e. Golden Plovers, Wood Sandpipers, Black Grouses, in the clusters of pine-trees - Great Grey Shrikes. More frequent reptilians: viviparous lizards, vipers.
Specific plants quite typical for raised-bogs and fens vegetate and grow in the transitional bogs of Žuvintas biosphere reserve, forming abundance of orchid plants – Heath Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza maculata), Straw-colored Orchid (Dactylorhiza ochroleuca), Twayblade (Liparis loeselii), or Collarorhiza trifida. The common species of osier willow and pussy willow, royal goat-willow and Marsh saxifrage (Saxifrage hirculus) are common for plain areas.
The following rare sandpipers and allies’ birds breed in the fens: Black-tailed Godwits, Common Redshanks, Great snipes; Barn owls and spotted crakes nest in sedges. Fire-bellied Toads – so called wetland “cuckoos” - spawns in lingered water bodies.
